Grow A Garden 2 Crop Mutations
Weather-linked sell multipliers, fruit vs plant odds, and why GAG2 never stacks two procs on one harvest.
By Bloxron Editorial Team · Last updated
Mutations tint your crops, spike their sell price, and usually arrive through short weather bursts. If fruit is still growing when the sky shifts, it can pick up that event's proc — harvest too early and you sell before the roll happens.
One proc per harvest
GAG2 dropped the old stacking system. A crop carries a single multiplier now. Single-pick plants — Carrot, Tulip, Bamboo, Mushroom, Glow Mushroom — only keep 25% of every bonus point above 1×. Plug your proc into the calculator to see the trimmed value.
Weather → mutation quick map
GAG2 rolls one mutation per crop — no stacking. When the matching sky event is live, fruit already growing uses the fruit column; crops planted mid-storm use the lower plant column. Full odds sit in the table below.
| Weather | Mutation | Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| Eclipse | Eclipsed | 80× |
| Blood Moon | Bloodlit | 70× |
| Star Fruit ambient | Glow | 70× |
| Sunburst | Ignited | 60× |
| Starfall | Starstruck | 50× |
| Aurora Borealis | Aurora | 40× |
| Rainbow / Rainbow Moon | Rainbow | 30× |
| Lightning | Electric | 25× |
| Snowfall | Frozen | 20× |
| Gold Moon | Gold | 10× |
| Chained | Chained | 8× |
| Pizza / Solar Flare | Pizza / Solarflare | 5×soon |
Rain speeds growth but does not mutate crops — use it to push more fruit into the ripening window before the next storm. See weather events for durations and night-only skies.
Multiplier and proc odds
Fruit odds apply to crops already in the ground; plant odds apply when you sow during the event. Weather-tied rows only roll while that sky effect is active — see the weather events page for durations and night-only skies.
| Mutation | Example | Multiplier | Trigger | Fruit chance | Plant chance | How to get it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eclipsed | — | 80× | Eclipse | 1% (1/100) | 0.1% (1/1,000) | Rolls during Eclipse weather. Eclipse is not on a natural timer — harvest an Eclipse Bloom to open a ~2 minute window. |
| Bloodlit | Bamboo Bloodlit | 70× | Blood Moon | 1% (1/100) | 0.1% (1/1,000) | Tied to Blood Moon skies — odds only count while the event is running. |
| Glow | — | 70× | Star Fruit ambient | 1% (1/100) | 0.1% (1/1,000) | Star Fruit can occasionally tag nearby plants with Glow while it sits on the plot. |
| Ignited | — | 60× | Sunburst | — | — | Rolls on ripe crops during Sunburst weather while the daytime sky effect is active. |
| Starstruck | Blueberry Starstruck | 50× | Starfall | 1% (1/100) | 0.1% (1/1,000) | Shows up during Starfall; keep ripe crops in the ground before the sky changes. |
| Veil | — | 50×soon | Shadow Dragon | — | — | Shadow Dragon can apply Veil when you sow a plant (~10% listed chance). Pet is still unreleased — treat the proc as upcoming. |
| Aurora | Moon Bloom Aurora | 40× | Aurora Borealis | 1% (1/100) | 0.1% (1/1,000) | Rolls on crops during Aurora Borealis weather — often after dark when the sky shifts green and purple. |
| Rainbow | Strawberry Rainbow | 30× | Rainbow / Rainbow Moon | 0.333% (1/300) | 0.033% (1/3,000) | Rainbow weather procs, or guaranteed from a Rainbow Seed planting. |
| Electric | Bamboo Electric | 25× | Lightning | 0.333% (1/300) | 0.033% (1/3,000) | Rolls on fruit during active Lightning storms; planting mid-storm uses the plant column. |
| Frozen | Apple Frozen | 20× | Snowfall | 1% (1/100) | 0.1% (1/1,000) | Snowfall event mutation — fruit already growing can freeze; new plants need the storm active. |
| Gold | Green Bean Gold | 10× | Gold Moon | 1% (1/100) | 0.1% (1/1,000) | Comes from Gold Seeds, with a small passive roll during ordinary play. |
| Chained | — | 8× | Chained | — | — | Rolls on crops growing through Chained weather. The proc only matters while that sky effect is still active. |
| Pizza | — | 5×soon | Pizza | — | — | Shows up during Pizza weather — treat it like other sky events where fruit on the vine and fresh plantings use separate odds columns. |
| Solarflare | — | 5×soon | Solar Flare | — | — | Tied to Solar Flare weather; release window still TBA. |
Farming mutations on purpose
- Play through the weather. Logging off when an event starts means zero rolls — the timer is short.
- Leave sellable fruit on the plant. Empty plots cannot mutate. A premature harvest clears the chance.
- Defend high rolls. Night theft is real; a Bee swarm or Raccoon night run protects a top-tier proc haul better than hope.
- Speed up growth before storms. Sprinklers push more crops into the ripening window while the event is live.
FAQ
- Can mutations stack in Grow A Garden 2?
- No — GAG2 locks one mutation per crop. The original Grow A Garden let several stick at once; the sequel dropped that entirely.
- What's the best mutation to chase?
- Eclipsed (80×) leads when Eclipse is open, then Bloodlit and Glow (70×), Ignited (60×), and Starstruck (50×). Frozen during Snowfall is 20× on the calculator table. Multipliers can shift after patches — check the sell screen before banking a haul.
- How do I see more mutation procs?
- Stay in-session when the sky event starts and keep ripe fruit on the vine. Planting during the storm uses the lower plant column; fruit already growing uses the fruit column.
- Why do some guides list different multipliers?
- Bloodlit, Electric, Frozen, Aurora, Glow, and Eclipsed numbers still drift between public tables. This wiki keeps the multipliers above; trust the in-game sell price when a patch lands.
